The city's other anchor is a hotel. The Omni Parker House is named after its developer, Harvey Parker, and US Ghost Adventures notes that Charles Dickens stayed on its third floor each time he visited Boston. Boston Ghosts' own site works a wider downtown circuit of the same vintage — the Massachusetts State House, King's Chapel Church and Cemetery, and the Old Granary Burial Ground, which Boston Ghosts calls the third oldest memorial site in Boston and the resting place of Benjamin Franklin's parents, Abiah and Josiah Franklin.
The legend
This section is folklore — reported by tour companies and their guests, and never asserted as fact here.
Of Boston Common, US Ghost Adventures says the grounds are said to be haunted by both the executed and the executioner, with shadowy figures reported around the tree used for executions and disembodied sounds of anguished weeping. "Said to be" is the company's own framing, and this page keeps it. Boston Ghosts' version is gentler and vaguer — hazy apparitions appearing late at night to remind visitors of the Common's "gruesome and morbid past." Both are the standard Common repertoire, and neither is a documented event.
